Whole Foods Market plans to expand its foothold in Ventura County, as recent signage shows it will go into a long-vacant building at a Simi Valley shopping center.
The grocery chain’s parent company, Amazon, recently announced it would close all of its Amazon Fresh grocery store locations and planned to open 100 Whole Foods Markets nationwide over the next few years.
Thousand Oaks and Moorpark previously had Amazon Fresh locations, with the former’s location currently in development as a Whole Foods Market with no set opening date announced.
Signage at a former home goods store in Simi Valley’s east side showed that Whole Foods is in the process to fill the space.
Where is the Whole Foods in Simi Valley going to open?
Whole Foods will fill the over 35,000 square-foot space at 2631 Tapo Canyon Road in the Civic Center Plaza.
The building was formerly occupied by Bed, Bath & Beyond up until early 2021, according to Angel Sierra, a spokesperson for the city of Simi Valley.
The grocery store is still in the planning stage with the city’s building and safety unit, but construction is expected to start soon after the plans pass, Sierra said.
There is no set opening for the future grocery store, said Carrie Hunte, a spokesperson for Whole Foods.
Where are the other Whole Foods stores in Ventura County?
Whole Foods Market currently has locations in Oxnard and Thousand Oaks.
Oxnard’s The Collection at Riverpark houses one location, and the other location is in a Thousand Oaks strip mall just north of Janss Marketplace.
The Simi Valley store would be the fourth in the county if the second planned Thousand Oaks location opens first.
