The Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) is supporting an employee whose father died and mother was critically injured during a house fire in Victorville.
The Hesperia-based transit agency said it is supporting Planning Analyst Nija Enos and her husband, Chris, after their house caught fire earlier this month. Enos’ father, Edson Delano Roberts, died in the fire and her mother was airlifted to a hospital with fourth-degree burns and in critical condition, according to the agency.
A family dog also died in the fire, while another was saved, the agency added.
The agency said Enos heard the news about the fire while at work decorating the VVTA hallways for the holidays and participating in its Christmas Stuff the Bus Toy Drive.
“Support from family, friends, and VVTA so far has helped raise $4,633 to assist with essential expenses and urgent needs,” the agency stated.
The Victor Valley Transit Authority is not collecting donations directly; however, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help Enos and her family.
“Our community partners and industry peers are encouraged to contribute if they are able and to share the campaign within their own networks,” VVTA officials stated.
The incident
Edson Roberts, 68, died in the fire, which broke out shortly after 9 a.m. Dec. 8 at his home in the 12400 block of Crestline Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
A woman, later identified as Roberts’ wife, was hospitalized and two deputies suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire, sheriff’s officials said at the time.
Firefighters found Roberts inside a bedroom of the home, according to a sheriff’s department statement. He died from his injuries at the scene.
No further details were released.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Arson and Bomb Squad were working to investigate the cause and circumstances of the deadly fire.
