It was an impressive season debut for USC quarterback Jayden Maiava. In just one half of action, he completed 15 of 18 pass attempts for 295 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a score on the ground.
On Monday, the Big Ten announced its Week 1 honors. Maiava was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Washington running back Jonah Coleman.
Maiava is the second USC player to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors since the Trojans joined the conference last year. In Week 1 of the 2024 season, USC quarterback Miller Moss was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Trojans’ 27-20 over LSU.
However, Moss would regress as the season went on, eventually being benched in favor of Maiava. Maiava will look to avoid suffering the same fate this season and instead continue to improve as the year progresses.
