There’s no such thing as on offseason for a college football coach. New UCLA head coach Bob Chesney hasn’t coached a game with the UCLA Bruins but he’s familiarizing himself with everything UCLA.
Chesney’s not just working with the football program, as he looks to help the Bruins shake off a 3-9 season in 2025. Luckily for us, Chesney shares what he’s up to on Twitter, giving Bruins fans an opportunity to see what their new coach is up to.

On Wednesday, Chesney met with former Bruin defensive lineman Jay Toia. Toia was drafted last year by the Dallas Cowboys and just capped off his rookie season. Chesney and Toia’s time in Westwood didn’t overlap but the new UCLA head coach still took time to get to know one of the players representing UCLA in the NFL.
“Nothing better than spending time with one of our own and current Dallas Cowboy, @JayToia_102 today!” Chesney tweeted. “The Bruin family runs deep, and we are so proud of the way Jay represents @UCLAFootball in the NFL.”
Then on Thursday, Chesney sat down for a dinner with what appears to be a group of donors. One familiar face in the photo is sportswriter Bill Simmons. Simmons is familiar with Chesney from Chesney’s time coaching at Simmons’ alma mater, Holy Cross.
“Blessed to break bread with these Hollywood heavy hitters. Their commitment to making an impact on @UCLAFootball will help get our team back on top,” Grateful for their partnership in what we’re building in Westwood.”
To close out the week, Chesney watched the UCLA gymnastics team win the Big Ten conference title for the second year in a row.
“Champions made here,” Chesney tweeted. “More work to be done, but what an atmosphere. What a night. What a WIN!”
Chesney is staying busy and is staying focused to doing anything he can do to help restore the UCLA football program to a championship caliber.
