UCLA softball hung-on in a fight among giants with a 15-12 win over the No. 4 Florida Gators to conclude their Friday at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif. UCLA won two games, scoring a total of 29 runs on the day.
The two UCLA pitchers to throw from the mound were senior Taylor Tinsley, who pitched four innings and gave up 12 hits, seven runs and for strikeouts, and freshman Natalie Cable, who pitched three innings for nine hits, five runs and a strikeout. On offense, sophomore infielder Kaniya Bragg led the pack with three runs and three hits from her six times at bat.

In the top of the first, senior infielder Jordan Woolery started the scoring with a home run to left field that would also send sophomore outfielder Rylee Slimp home. Redshirt freshman infielder Aleena Garcia continued the scoring with a grand slam, but the Gators would respond with four runs of their own off Tinsley in the bottom of the first.
The top of the second featured UCLA redshirt junior centerfielder Alexis Ramirez hitting a three-run homer to left field. Cable then gave up two runs to Florida. UCLA stayed ahead, 9-6.
Senior utility Megan Grant was the only player on either team to score in the third, thanks to freshman infielder Bri Alejandre’s flyout to center field. The fourth went the Bruins’ way with an explosive series of events that gave UCLA five more runs.
The Gators were able to tag on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Tinsley was able to hold them off with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. Florida managed to crack through Tinsley’s pitching for three more runs, but only three, enabling UCLA to win by three in a shootout.
UCLA will remain in Fullerton for their game against BYU on Saturday at Anderson Family Field.
