The UCLA softball team’s three multi-run innings allowed the Bruins to notch a 13-8 win over BYU at the Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif., on Saturday.
Bruin pitchers Sydney Somerndike and Brynne Nally both gave up seven hits, but Somerndike allowed five runs compared to Nally’s three runs.

UCLA’s batters were playing from behind with the Cougars scoring three runs off Somerndike in the top of the first, but they were up to the challenge. Four hits later UCLA collected four runs and came screaming into the top of the second up 4-3.
UCLA continued to rack up runs with senior utility Megan Grant cracking a two-run homer to right field. Senior infielder Jordan Woolery would follow by tripling and eventually scoring.
The Bruins continued to heat up with two home runs in the fourth. The Cougars would also walk two more UCLA batters with the bases loaded to help UCLA extend its scoring spree to five runs in the fourth.
Nally would come onto the mound in the top of the fifth in relief of Somerndike. The Cougars would score three runs off her.
Redshirt junior utility Rylee Pinedo would score UCLA’s last run of the game off a Woolery double in the bottom of the sixth. UCLA would give up two more runs to end the seventh, but nothing more. The Bruins took the win by five runs.
