Two former Bruins win first Super Bowl championship with Seahawks

The UCLA Bruins got two more Super Bowl champions this year, with former Bruins Zach Charbonnet and Jake Bobo helping the Seattle Seahawks win this year’s Super Bowl over the New England Patriots 29-13.

Neither player made much of an impact in the game. Charbonnet didn’t play, as he tore his ACL earlier in the playoffs while Bobo recorded one special team tackle but wasn’t targeted on offense. The outcome of the Super Bowl was ideal for the Bruins, as the Patriots didn’t have any UCLA alum on their roster.

Charbonnet’s running back mate, Kenneth Walker II, won Super Bowl MVP. Walker rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries. Seattle’s rushing attack was one of the few consistent sources of offense in the game. Before Charbonnet’s injury, the UCLA alum totaled 730 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. The 12 rushing touchdowns was tied for the sixth-most in the NFL this season.

Bobo has had a smaller offensive impact for Seattle this season, catching just two passes for 20 yards during the regular season. Bobo added another two catches for 33 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs, with the touchdown coming against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game.

Charbonnet and Bobo were both apart of the 2022 UCLA team that went 9-4 under Chip Kelly. Charbonnet led the team with 1,359 rushing yards and Bobo paced the team with 817 receiving yards. Both players turned pro after the 2022 season, having been with the Seahawks since.
