USC football put 73 points on the board against Missouri State. It’s hard to be especially upset when a team exceeds 70 points in a season opener. Nevertheless, USC was facing a cream-puff-level opponent. Missouri State was playing its first-ever FBS game in Conference USA after playing in the FCS last year. Just how much value or meaning can be assigned to a game against a cupcake opponent? Trojans Wire joined USC football analyst Ethan Inman at The Voice of College Football to talk about that point and a lot more on our USC Sunday postgame show, a day-after review of the Trojans.
Ethan Inman reviewed the game in all three phases of play, going over the details of USC’s performance on offense, defense, and special teams. We looked at Lincoln Riley’s play selection, the transition from Matt Entz to Rob Ryan as linebacker coach, the injuries USC carried into the game (and how it affected the defense), Jayden Maiava, Husan Longstreet, the running back room, the rotating centers, the backups getting a ton of snaps, and a lot more.
We also looked at three of USC’s upcoming Big Ten opponents this season, noting how they performed in Week 1: Nebraska, Purdue, and UCLA. There were notable observations to make about those three Big Ten football teams, given that USC’s games against each of those schools will be hugely important for the Trojans in 2025.
Our USC football postgame show at The Voice of College Football, with analyst Ethan Inman, airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern time, 5 p.m. Pacific, during the college football season. This was a two-hour show because viewers chipped in donations. Every show is at least one hour in length.
