Train services disruption, Hwy 232 lane closures in Oxnard this week

Commuters may experience snags in their travel plans in Ventura County starting March 4 through the weekend as transportation agencies work on railroad tracks and road maintenance.

The California Department of Transportation plans to continue work on its Vineyard Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation project in Oxnard, which will shut down lanes overnight throughout the week.

Train companies across Southern California will suspend service over the weekend for routine track maintenance, including in the county.

Here’s what Ventura County residents hoping to travel should know.

Train companies suspend weekend service for track maintenance

Several train companies are scheduled to suspend service on March 7 and 8 along most of Southern California, including Ventura County.

Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, Metrolink, Union Pacific Railroad and San Diego’s North County Transit District all plan to suspend operation of their trains between San Diego and San Luis Obispo for track work and other railway maintenance, according to an Amtrak news release.

Metrolink is poised to shut down a track between Los Angeles Union Station and Ventura East Station for maintenance and plan to not provide alternative transportation, according to a Metrolink news release.

Metrolink is scheduled to cancel service for Train 139 the night of Friday, March 6, between Chatsworth and Moorpark, said Brett Hawkins, a spokesperson for Metrolink. Alternative transportation will be available for riders of Train 139.

Amtrak is set to work on the tracks and switch upgrades while the track closure is in place, Amtrak officials said. Amtrak Connection Bus routes plan to continue to operate, but regularly scheduled train connections will not be available, the release says.

Oxnard Vineyard Avenue project to close lanes overnight

Caltrans plans lane closures for Vineyard Avenue, or Highway 232, for a pavement rehabilitation project starting March 4.

Crews are scheduled to block the left lanes of both northbound and southbound lanes of Vineyard Avenue at Collins Street with a moving closure from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from March 4 to March 6, according to a department news release.

Daytime construction is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind K-rails, and are not expected to shut down lanes, agency officials said.

Motorists are asked to follow construction zone rules, such as obeying the speed limit of 35 mph and driving with caution.
