(This story has been updated with additional information from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.)
A teen was injured in a shooting outside a Fillmore home Dec. 7.
Deputies with the Fillmore station responded to the 1000 block of Oliver Street at 8:50 p.m. on a report of a shooting, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Jason Karol. The incident happened in a neighborhood of single-family homes in central Fillmore. The sheriff’s office is contracted with the city of Fillmore for police services.
Deputies found a 16-year-old boy with a non life-threatening gunshot wound, Karol said. He was taken to the hospital.
The suspect fled before deputies arrived. No arrests had been made as of 10 a.m. Dec. 8, Karol said.
It was unclear if the teen and the shooter knew each other, but Karol said the incident happened after some kind of altercation outside the house and appeared to be isolated.
Sheriff’s officials later said in a news release that they found evidence the shooting happened in an adjacent street called Burson Lane, south of Oliver Street.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Christopher Vorzimer 805-384-4731 or Detective Nicole Grover at 805-384-4722.Â
