Silverwood wins major master‑planning award — here’s what set it apart

After breaking ground nearly four years ago, Hesperia-based Silverwood was named the Masterplan Community of the Year at the So Cal MAME Awards Gala.

John Ohanian, the general manager of the Silverwood Joint Venture for DMB Development, also took home the Industry Leader of the Year award.

The award ceremony spotlighted new communities that exemplified “innovation, creativity, and excellence across Southern California’s homebuilding industry,” Silverwood officials stated.

Presented by the Greater Sales & Marketing Council and Building Industry Association of Southern California, the award ceremony included nearly 300 entries.

“It is an incredible honor to have Silverwood recognized by the building community in Southern California,” Ohanian said. “Bringing Silverwood to life has been the culminating project of my career, and now that we have residents moved in and living out the kindness culture on a daily basis, it is gratifying to see our intentions in action.”

Ohanian added that he appreciated the awards, his team’s talented efforts, and everyone who helped make the vision for Silverwood a reality.

Construction continues

On Friday, an army of workers continued to labor on the master-planned community south of Rancho Road in Summit Valley.

After breaking ground in December 2021, Silverwood officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in March 2025 as model homes in Phase 1 of the project were available for touring, the Daily Press reported.

Located in the northern portion of the development, Phase 1 includes nearly 2,100 dwelling units consisting of homes, condos, and flats.

The entire Silverwood project spans 9,366 acres and includes nearly 15,633 dwelling units, with plans for 700,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, and 4,900 acres of open space.

Dwelling options

With 25 home plans available in a variety of sizes, Silverwood offers options for both first-time and move-up buyers, with prices from the $400,000s to $700,000s.

The Silverwood community features homes with RV and toy parking, rear yard casitas, multi-generational floorplans, front porches, and bold exterior paint colors.

As of February 2026, there were 21 model homes from five builders that were available to tour.

Silverwood is being constructed in nine phases over the next 15 to 20 years, Ohanian told the Daily Press.

In February, Silverwood officials announced the groundbreaking of The Crest Club, a private resident amenity designed for “connection, relaxation, and everyday moments that turn into lasting memories.”

The Crest Club will feature the Lodge Room, built for game nights, watch parties, and book clubs, to a resort-style pool with cabanas, lap lanes, and a beach-entry zone for little ones, Silverwood officials said.

Retail and commercial space

With San Bernardino County Fire Station No. 306 already operational on the property, Silverwood has plans for more than 700,000 square feet of retail and commercial space,

Also, public schools and walkable town squares with shopping and dining options.

Silverwood officials said its community is not just a collection of quality homes designed with superior craftsmanship. It is a community built from the ground up on a culture of kindness.

DMB envisioned Silverwood as an enclave where residents can thrive by supporting each other and working together.

Residents are given a kindness pledge when they sign their association documents, which is intended to foster a neighborly way of life that creates a better place to live for everyone in Silverwood.

Local schools, police, fire, parks and recreation, and city departments, as well as the local faith community, have also agreed to be part of the kindness initiative.

Silverwood Lake lies just beyond the southern boundary of the property alongside the famed Pacific Crest Trail.
