Shasta County man who allegedly broke arms, shot victim arrested

A suspect is being held in Shasta County Jail on charges of assault after he allegedly broke both of a man’s arms with a mental pipe and later held a gun to that man’s head before shooting the victim in the shoulder.

Michael Stuart Robinson, 46, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a firearm and battery on Tuesday, Feb. 17, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies had been actively searching for Robinson since December 2025, a statement from the sheriff’s office said.

As of Wednesday evening, Robinson was being held in the Shasta County Jail on $550,000 bail.

The adult male victim was not identified.

According to the statement, sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on the 6000 block of Peach Lane in Redding after receiving a report of an assault there on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025.

The victim said he was alone and working on a vehicle nearby when his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Robinson, snuck up behind him and hit him multiple times with a metal pipe. The blows allegedly broke both of the victim’s arms and caused injuries to his head, body and back, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim walked to nearby home for help after Robinson left. Authorities said the victim declined to report the assault and was treated for his injuries at an area hospital.

On the evening of Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, the male victim and his girlfriend were staying at a friend’s place in the Redding area. After the victim’s girlfriend left, the sheriff’s office said, Robinson arrived and confronted the victim inside the home.

Robinson held a gun to the victim’s head and threatened to kill him, said the sheriff’s office. But Robinson instead shot the victim once in the shoulder and left, according to the statement from authorities.

After the victim’s girlfriend returned to the house, he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were notified by hospital staff on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025 that a gunshot victim had been treated for injuries allegedly from the two separate attacks by Robinson.

Based on an investigation, deputies got a warrant for Robinson’s arrest.

On Feb. 17, at about 5:30 p.m., deputies received information that Robinson was at the Peach Lane home. Robinson attempted to escape to the rear of the house but was taken into custody without incident, the statement from the sheriff’s office said.
