The Los Angeles Rams’ cornerback room seems to be set in stone for now. Rams head coach Sean McVay told J.B. Long on The Coach McVay Show this week that the team hasn’t looked at adding additional players to that unit since L.A. signed Tre Brown a few weeks ago.
“That hasn’t been something that we’ve talked about,” he said about the prospect of adding more cornerbacks to the roster. “You know, we’re always looking at ways to be able to upgrade the roster. I think, those guys did a good job and and we’ll continue to lean into them.”
Currently, the Rams are trotting out Darious Williams, Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. at cornerback. Those three accounted for 81, 61 and 24 defensive snaps in the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, respectively. Josh Wallace played three defensive snaps, while Brown didn’t play any.
That unit gave up 342 passing yards and two touchdowns to Mac Jones this past week, including an average depth of target of 8.8 yards for Williams and Durant.
The secondary hasn’t been great overall since Akhello Witherspoon suffered a long-term clavicle injury in Week 2. The Rams have given up at least 200 passing yards in each of the past three games without Witherspoon after allowing an average of 147 passing yards in the first two games of the season.
There are free agent options available for the Rams, but it doesn’t sound like McVay is very interested in bringing more players on board just yet.
