Running back Waymond Jordan has become a star for USC

One of the more impressive players this season for USC football has been running back Waymond Jordan. A junior college transfer, Jordan rushed for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the Trojans’ first three games, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. He then rushed for 157 more yards on just 18 carries Saturday night in the 45-31 win over Michigan State, pushing him close to 450 yards for the season in four games. That’s an average of over 100 yards per game.

Waymond Jordan has not always been an acclaimed player. Coming out of high school, “Waymo” did not have any Division I offers. He landed at Hutchinson Community College, a school located in the middle of Kansas.

After an impressive 2024 season at Hutchinson, Jordan got an offer from the Trojans this past offseason. In a recent Los Angeles Times profile on Jordan, his junior college running backs coach discussed his journey from unheralded high school recruit to starting for USC.

“He believed in himself. And he bet on himself,” Greg Cross, the running backs coach at Hutchinson, said. “And I would say he bet right.”

Lincoln Riley is certainly thankful for Jordan’s bet. It is still early, but it appears as though he has hit on yet another running back transfer.
