The 2025-26 girls basketball season is approaching the final week of action, with the last day of competition set for Friday, Feb. 13
While the Foothill girls team likely won’t be taking home a league title in 2026, they kept the No. 1 spot among Redding-area schools heading into the final week of play. Meanwhile, the 20-3 Redding Christian Lions were the only team to rise a spot in this week’s rankings.
Take a look at where each Redding-area girls basketball team stands through the first week of February action:
1. Foothill Cougars (17-4, 5-2 EAL)
The Cougars keep the top spot in this week’s power rankings despite a devastating 73-40 loss to Chico on Jan. 29. The Cougars bounced back to defeat Shasta 52-39 on Feb. 6 and continue to hold second place in the Eastern Athletic League.
Junior Madison Hart picked up her 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Shasta. The Cougars remain the team to beat in the Redding area.
Last five games: 4-1
2. West Valley Eagles (16-8, 6-1 NAL)
The Eagles have won four of their last five games, with the only loss coming to Pleasant Valley on Jan. 27. West Valley also pulled off a huge win over U-Prep on Jan. 23 to give the Eagles first place in the NAL.
Despite their first-place spot, the Eagles still hold the same league record as U-Prep, meaning the matchup between the two schools on Feb. 13 could very well decide which team wins the NAL this season.
Last five games: 4-1
3. University Prep Panthers (15-7, 6-1 NAL)
The Panthers bounced back from two straight losses to beat Anderson and Yreka by a combined 35 points. The Panthers’ offensive production has taken a big jump forward since the beginning of the season, and it shows when U-Prep hits the court against other NAL teams.
U-Prep will face Lassen on Feb. 6 before closing out the season against Central Valley and West Valley next week. The Panthers have beaten Lassen and CV this season, so the matchup at West Valley could determine which team takes home a league title.
Last five games: 3-2
4. Redding Christian Lions (21-3, 5-0 Five Star)
The Redding Christian Lions jumped up to the No. 4 spot in this week’s power rankings after a strong 5-0 record over their last five games. The win streak extends beyond those five games, as the Lions haven’t suffered a loss since Jan. 1.
The Lions’ defense hasn’t allowed an opponent to score more than 35 points in a game since its loss to Trinity on Jan. 1. Redding Christian’s win over Chester on Jan. 27 puts them in sole control of the Five Star League.
Last five games: 5-0
5. Enterprise Hornets (14-9, 2-5 EAL)
The Enterprise Hornets dropped to the No. 5 spot in this week’s power rankings after suffering four straight losses from Jan. 13-23. They bounced back to defeat Red Bluff, but lost to Pleasant Valley in double overtime on Feb. 3.
The Hornets have dominant playmakers in Cat Ahart and Carly Graham but struggle to find much scoring production outside of those two juniors. Ahart dropped 27 points in the loss to Pleasant Valley and holds the second-best scoring average in the section with 20.4 points per game.
Last five games: 1-4
6. Shasta Wolves (7-14, 1-6 EAL)
The Wolves pulled off a huge three-point win over Enterprise on Jan. 16, but have since lost four straight games to EAL opponents. The Wolves have been able to stay competitive in big games behind an elite scoring guard in Riley Rosales, but they can’t quite seem to finish those games strong.
A league title is out of the picture for this Wolves squad, but a deep playoff run is not. Shasta’s three games against Enterprise, Chico, and Red Bluff are vital for the Wolves to gain some momentum before the postseason.
Last five games: 1-4
7. Red Bluff Spartans (9-15, 1-6 EAL)
The Spartans had a three-game winning streak from Jan. 23-28 before losing to Enterprise by 4 points on Jan. 29. While the 9-15 record doesn’t look great, the Spartans have made significant progress since the start of the season.
Red Bluff is in a last-place tie with Shasta in the EAL and will close out the season against Foothill, Pleasant Valley and Shasta.
Last five games: 3-2
8. Anderson Cubs (8-16, 3-4 NAL)
The Cubs haven’t had the best season — suffering losses in two-thirds of their games played — but recently, the Cubs earned two huge wins over Williams and Lassen. With U-Prep and West Valley taking control of the league standings, a title might be a stretch.
However, the Cubs have four games remaining and could jump in front of Yreka for that third-place spot. Yreka beat Anderson earlier this season and the two schools will face off again on Feb. 13.
Last five games: 2-3
9. Central Valley Falcons (7-18, 0-7 NAL)
The Falcons had a promising start to the season, but since Jan. 10, Central Valley has lost seven straight games. The offensive production hit a decline in the month of January and the Falcons haven’t scored more than 45 points in a game since their last win on Jan. 9.
CV will close out the season with NAL games against Anderson, U-Prep and Lassen. While a league title is out of the picture, the Falcons will fight to prevent finishing the season with a winless league record.
Last five games: 0-5
