Rams vs. 49ers: Studs and duds from Los Angeles' stunning Week 5 OT loss to San Francisco

The Los Angeles Rams entered their Week 5 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night at SoFi Stadium with a 3-1 record, but Sean McVay’s team shockingly dropped the game 26-23.

Los Angeles came out as the much more talented team due to San Francisco’s injuries, but the 49ers came ready to play and appeared to catch the Rams sleeping.

As we do after every game, let’s take a look at some Rams who deserve more credit for their efforts against the 49ers, as well as some who will need to reflect after this one.

STUD: QB Matthew Stafford

Stafford was solid on Thursday, completing 63.8% of his passes to seven different targets for 389 yards and three touchdowns. His efforts should’ve been enough to earn the win, but San Francisco kept fighting back.

DUD: K Joshua Karty

Karty showed off his dirty kickoffs and got Skyy Moore on the opening kick, but this was a game he probably wants to forget. He missed a 53-yard field goal in the third quarter and missed an extra point in the fourth quarter that left the game tied at 20-20. Then, in overtime, his kickoff went out of bounds, giving the 49ers great field position to make a game-winning field goal.

STUDS: WR Trio

Adams and Nacua continue to be one of the best duos in the league, and Tutu Atwell made a big impact as well. The three combined to catch 17 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown.

DUD: Secondary

Kendrick Bourne just returned to the 49ers, and Los Angeles allowed him to catch 10 passes for 142 yards. It’s not Deebo Samuel. It’s no George Kittle. It’s not Brandon Aiyuk. That’s unacceptable.

STUD: LB Nate Landman

Not only did Landman lead the team in tackles (14) on Thursday, but he also had massive pass breakups while covering tight ends. 11 Nate Landmans might’ve given Los Angeles a better chance on Thursday.
