Piñon Hills woman arrested, charged in connection with alleged abuse of 114 dogs

Investigators have arrested a Piñon Hills woman in connection with a year-long investigation into the alleged abuse and neglect of 114 dogs on her property, authorities said Wednesday.

Dianne Denise Bedford, 63, faces seven felony counts animal cruelty, nine misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and 21 misdemeanor counts of failing to care for an animal, according to San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Officials and San Bernardino County Superior Court records.

The charges were filed last month, and Bedford was arrested on Aug. 7, officials said. She was released from custody the following day after posting $250,000 bail.

“Defendant Bedford is alleged to have 114 dogs on her property without adequate food, water, or veterinary care,” the DA’s office said in a written statement.

The animals were initially seized in July of 2024 from an animal rescue organization run by Bedford called Woofy Acres, the San Bernardino Sun reported at the time.

Representatives of San Bernardino County Animal Care, which headed the investigation, told the Sun that 93 of the dogs had to be euthanized.

Bedford was yet to enter a plea to the charges. An arraignment hearing in the case was scheduled for Sept. 23 in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
