Palm Springs to close popular parking lot for a week for construction

The city of Palm Springs will close a popular parking lot downtown to construct improvements from Monday, Jan. 26 to Sunday, Feb. 1.

The lot, located at the intersection of W. Alejo Road and Belardo Road primarily serves Our Lady of Solitude church and nearby businesses. However, it has become an important secondary option when other parking at the north end of downtown fills up.

The Thompson Hotel, Tac/Quila and Blue Coyote Grill are all within short walking distance of the lot.

“The City recognizes the high level of community use and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this short-term closure,” the city wrote in a press release.

Improvements to the lot will mostly include pavement upgrades, but other quality-of-life updates will be installed as well.

Throughout construction, “No Parking” signs will be posted at the site. The city also will work to coordinate with nearby business and regular users of the lot.
