Lakers jersey history No. 26 — Spencer Dinwiddie

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Spencer Dinwiddie grew up in the Southland and attended William Howard Taft High School (now William Howard Taft Charter High School) in the San Fernando Valley. He was taken in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets out of the University of Colorado Boulder.

The 6-foot-5 guard eventually made himself known as a scoring threat who could also facilitate, even though he wasn’t a very efficient scorer. Midway through the 2023-24 season, he was waived by the Toronto Raptors, paving the way for him to join the Lakers for the rest of the season.

In 28 games with Los Angeles, he averaged 6.8 points on 39.7% overall shooting and 38.9% from 3-point range and 2.4 assists in 24.2 minutes a game. He was with the Dallas Mavericks last season, and this season, he was a member of the FC Bayern Munich of the Basketball Bundesliga in Germany before requesting to be released several weeks ago.
