Important member of Lakers' front office is leaving after this season

It could be the beginning of a new day, so to speak, for the Los Angeles Lakers now that Mark Walter owns a majority share of the franchise. The sale was completed in October 2025, and fans have been wondering what type of changes could be coming to the franchise as a result.

The first move came in November when Joey and Jesse Buss, who had been longtime members of the Lakers’ front office, were fired, along with much of the team’s scouting department. Now, another front office stalwart will be leaving not too long from now.

Tim Harris, the Lakers’ president of business operations, told the team that he will be leaving after this season, per Dan Woike of The Athletic.

“Lakers president of business operations Tim Harris informed staff Tuesday that this will be his final season with the organization per sources,” Woike wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Harris, who was the driving force between the massive local TV rights deal with Spectrum SportsNet, has been with the Lakers/The Forum for more than 35 years.”

It is unclear why Harris will be leaving the organization.

Woike also reported earlier this month that the Lakers are expected to hire people for a wide range of front-office positions this summer and model their front office after that of Walter’s Dodgers. The Dodgers have won the last two World Series championships and are seen as Major League Baseball’s model franchise.
