The Athletic’s Dane Brugler released his new two-round mock draft on Wednesday.
Let’s break down what one of the highly touted draft analysts thinks for Los Angeles in the 2026 NFL Draft right after the combine.
Round 1, No. 22, CB Jermod McCoy, Tennessee
As of now, the Chargers have more pressing needs, specifically along the interior of the offensive line and at edge rusher. However, cornerback could still be in play with the first-round pick. Despite having a solid core with Donte Jackson, Cam Hart, and Tarheeb Still, first-year NFL defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary could use some bona fide talent in this room.
This is a value pick for the Chargers. McCoy, now more than a year removed from ACL surgery, didn’t work out at the combine and remains a wild card in this class. There might be a discount sticker on his tag come draft weekend.
McCoy did not play at all in 2025 after suffering a torn ACL. However, the year before, he established himself as one of the elite cornerbacks in college football after transferring from Oregon State. McCoy recorded 13 passes defended and 4 interceptions, as well as finishing with an 89.6 coverage grade, which ranked 3rd in the SEC and 9th in the FBS among cornerbacks.
Round 2, No. 55, OL Chase Bisontis
Following the selection of McCoy, the Chargers address one of the guard spots with the pick of Bisontis. Keeping quarterback Justin Herbert upright is an absolute must. Bisontis brings an impressive resume in this area, having allowed only one sack in his final season at Texas A&M. In offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s scheme, he has the functional athleticism to pull, reach the second level, and effectively block.
With Zion Johnson a pending free agent and following the release of Mekhi Becton, Bisontis would slide into a starting role from Day 1.
