“During the investigation, the Barstow Police Department Narcotics Detection K-9, Bailey, was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle’s exterior,” police said in a written statement. “K-9 Bailey positively alerted on the vehicle.”

Officers searched the car, ultimately finding roughly 46 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in its engine compartment, officials said. A loaded handgun was also found inside the vehicle.

Patrick Lavon Parker, 38, of Hemet was arrested on suspicion of transporting methamphetamine for sales and possession of a controlled substance while armed, county booking records show.

He was released from custody Monday, March 2, pending legal proceedings after posting bail.
