With the NFL’s pre-free agency negotiating window about to open, the San Francisco 49ers will almost certainly be in on some of the top wide receivers on the market this year, with Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, Skyy Moore and Trent Taylor all expected to become free agents as well.
Jennings, Alec Pierce, Romeo Doubs and Wan’Dale Robinson top the free agent market, but the 49ers might want to reach out to a team that appears to be trimming their roster and starting over – the Miami Dolphins.
Miami has a new general manager and new head coach this offseason, and they’ve wasted no time moving on from some of the team’s top veterans, including Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, Tua Tagovailoa, Alec Ingold, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jason Sanders.
While the Dolphins have said they have no interest in trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, they may consider an offer for the right price.
Waddle, 27, joined the Dolphins as a first-round pick (No. 6 overall) in the 2021 NFL draft out of Alabama. Over the last five years, he’s appeared and started in 78 games while catching 373 passes for 5,039 yards and 26 touchdowns.
If San Francisco is considering using a first-round pick this year on a wide receiver, they probably won’t find one as impactful as Waddle will be in 2026. We’ve already seen him have success in Kyle Shanahan’s system while playing for Mike McDaniel in Miami. Imagine what he could do with Brock Purdy throwing him the ball instead of Tagovailoa.
