Sanilac County Museum Sets a Spooky Stage for Thrills This Halloween Season

By The Sanilac County Historical Society

Port Sanilac, MI –   The brave souls at the Sanilac County Historical Society are hosting a number of Halloween events on the grim and gruesome grounds of the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum (cue scary music).  At any other time of the year, the Museum is generally a quiet place where the atmosphere is rich with history. In October however, history comes back to haunt the inhabitants, and spirits of the past lurk the grounds and historic buildings at their Halloween events!

CREEPY BABY DOLL CONTEST – Various dates through October

The community is invited to submit creepy baby dolls to the contest by bringing them to the Museum Tuesday – Friday from 11am – 4pm, beginning September 12. To qualify for the contest, dolls should be received at the Museum before October 12, but will be accepted any time.

Dolls with a high creep factor are most encouraged. Think creepy, old dolls or newer dolls that have been artificially creeped out. All dolls will be (gladly) returned to their owners once the contest winners are announced.
The community is invited to view the creepy baby dolls on the following days/times:

* October 13 from 8-10pm, with your paid admission to the Adults Only Haunted Village Party

* October 14 and 21 from 7-9pm, with your paid admission to the Haunted Village
* October 13, 20, and 27 from 1-4pm at no charge
* Additional viewing days/times may be available by contacting the office at 810.622.9946.

Visitors can cast a vote for their favorite (or perhaps least favorite) doll by placing a dollar bill in that doll’s corresponding jar.  All votes/donations will be used to support the Historical Society. The doll with the most money in its jar will be deemed the creepiest in all the land. First through third place ribbons will be awarded to the top three shiver-inducing dolls.

SUPER SPOOKY TRAIL – Here there are no holds barred and we guarantee the hair will stand up on the back of your neck as you walk (or run?) this trail.

Check out the Creepy Baby Doll Contest in our spooky train depot. Bring a dollar bill to place your vote for the creepiest baby in all the land!

Come warm up around the bonfire and sample goodies at the food BOOOOth.

Roast s’mores over one of our bonfires and enjoy a cup of hot cider or hot chocolate after getting the chills from walking the Haunted Village.

Bring the kids in costume to trick-or-treat at our super spooky event. Be sure to bring a bag to collect all the loot! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is just $5 cash per person at the gate.

PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION TOURS – October 28 at 7pm and 9:30pm

Join Detroit Paranormal Expeditions (DPX) as they investigate the Loop-Harrison Mansion and other sites throughout the historic village.  Paranormal encounters have been reported by guests and staff throughout the Historic Village & Museum, including disembodied voices, doors slamming on their own, and shadowy apparitions to name a few of the many types of experiences that have been reported on the property.

DPX will have their paranormal investigation equipment on hand, including different types of spirit boxes, cameras, and other investigative tools. Each two-hour paranormal investigation event will have a max of 12 attendees, who will go from building-to-building investigating with DPX. Because this event will require walking from building to building, and up and down stairs in the Loop-Harrison Mansion, guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes.

Attendees must be 16 or older. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Guests must have a valid, state-issued ID and sign a liability waiver to attend.

Tickets available beginning September 18 at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2023-paranormal-investigation-tours-at-sanilac-county-museum-tickets-713980273217?aff=oddtdtcreator
