Man charged as habitual second offender in Home Depot bathroom incident

On April 17 a 22-year-old Warren man was arraigned in connection with an incident in a Warren Home Depot bathroom. It is alleged that on Sunday, April 14, 2024, Elijah Lawrence was in the women’s bathroom of Home Depot when two young girls entered.  Lawrence allegedly touched one of the girls and fled the scene. 

Lawrence was charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree (a 15-year felony), Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material (a four-year felony), and two counts of Larceny Less Than $200 (a 93-day misdemeanor).  He is also being charged as a habitual second offender.

Lawrence was arraigned today in 37th Warren District Court where District Court Judge Steve Bieda set bond at $250,000 cash/surety. Upon release, Lawrence must wear a GPS tether and have no contact with any victims, children under 18, or Home Depot.  

District Court Judge Suzanne Faunce has scheduled A Probable Cause Hearing for Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 8:45 am.

Elijah Lawrence, 22, of Warren was arrested for his alleged involvement in an incident involving a child in the bathroom at Home Depot. 

“There is no greater betrayal than preying on the innocence of a child. We must remain vigilant in our commitment to protect our children from predators looking to do harm,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Police office charged with Unauthorized Disclosure of LEIN

A 36-year-old Clinton Township police officer was arraigned in connection with allegedly violating the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN).

An audit by the Michigan State Police concluded that on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, Clinton Township Police Officer John Hreno allegedly ran a license plate into LEIN that was never a focus of an investigation by the Clinton Township Police Department, and there was allegedly no valid law enforcement reason to run the license plate.

On April 15 Hreno was charged with Unauthorized Disclosure of LEIN Information (93-day misdemeanor).  Hreno was arraigned today in 41B Clinton Township District Court by Magistrate Ryan Zemke where Hreno was given a $5,000 personal bond. Hreno’s next court date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15, 2024, at 9:00 am in front of District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr.

“It is not only our duty but our obligation to ensure that the law applies equally to all, regardless of profession or position. No shield can protect one from the consequences of violating that trust, for in our pursuit of justice, no one stands above the law,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Mom pleads to involuntary manslaughter in death of son

On April 15, Derricka Fleming, 25, of Clinton Township, pled no contest to Involuntary Manslaughter (15-year felony) for the death of her son.

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, Fleming left her apartment after putting her son to bed. In the early hours of Monday, January 23, 2023, the five-year-old victim exited the apartment and was found in a nearby park. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Derricka Fleming, 25, of Clinton Township recently pled no contest to Involuntary Manslaughter (15-year felony) for the death of her son.

Fleming is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 8:30 am by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Kathryn Viviano.

“Today’s no-contest plea brings some measure of closure, but it can never fill the void left by the loss of a precious life. Our hearts ache for the innocent child whose potential was tragically cut short,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Man charged with operating while intoxicated – third offense – causing death

A 55-year-old man was arraigned on Wednesday, April 10, in connection with an alleged drunk driving head-on collision.  

It is alleged that on Monday, April 8, 2024, Jeffrey Scott Lucas, was driving to work around 9:00 pm on Brown Road in Bruce Township when he tried to pass another vehicle.  He hit a motorcycle head-on, killing 53-year-old Andrew Troia.

Jeffrey Lucas is charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Causing Death (a 15-year felony), and Operating While Intoxicated on a Third Offense (one to five years).

Lucas was arraigned in Romeo District Court by District Court Judge Jennifer Andary where bond was set at $750,000 cash/surety, no 10%.   A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 10:00 am and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 9:00 am.

“A man’s irresponsible choice to allegedly drive drunk caused a fatal collision resulting in the senseless loss of a life. The alleged drunk driver will be held fully accountable for his actions, as there’s no excuse for such disregard for human safety,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
