U-Do-It Car Wash was torn down in 2024. What's planned for that lot now?

Another Jimmy John’s drive-thru restaurant is proposed for Monroe.

According to a Feb. 23 legal notice and City of Monroe employee Matt Vanisacker, developer Anthony Porter wants to construct a Jimmy John’s on vacant property at 704 N. Telegraph Road in the city of Monroe.

The property is 0.88 acres and was listed for $220,000, according to a Zillow sales listing. For years, the property housed U-Do-It Car Wash.

“The structure was demolished in June of 2024,” said Vanisacker, deputy director of economic and community development and neighborhood services coordinator for the city of Monroe.

Monroe’s current Jimmy John’s locations are at 955 S. Monroe St., which has a drive-thru, and 2237 N. Telegraph Road, which does not have a drive-thru.

Porter did not immediately return a call from The Monroe News.

On Monday, March 9, the City of Monroe’s Citizens Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to review and hear comments on the request of Porter, on behalf of LAP25 LLC, who is seeking special use approval for a drive-thru restaurant.

“Drive-thrus are a special use, rather than a permitted use, in the C-T, Telegraph Commercial Zoning District. In the city of Monroe, special uses require the Citizens Planning Commission to review the use and site plan. The applicant is not requesting a zoning change,” Vanisacker said.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at Monroe City Hall, 120 E. First St.

Monroe’s Jimmy John’s location on North Telegraph Road opened in late 2005, in the newly constructed Frenchtown Shopping Center, a 13,000-square-foot retail center near Lowe’s, according to Monroe News archives.

The South Monroe Street location opened in December 2017. Construction began in December 2015.

Jimmy John’s, a national chain, also has locations in Dundee and Flat Rock.

According to a previous LoopNet real estate listing, U-Do-It Car Wash was built in 1966 and was 2,825 square feet.
