The owner of Monroe’s Michigan Museum of Horror is bringing death to the dining experience. His horror-themed restaurant, “The Last Meal,” is opening a location at the Mall of Monroe with a tentative April opening date.
On July 21, 2025, Nate Thompson opened The Last Meal in Galion, Ohio, with a menu comprised of the last meals of infamous death row inmates. Since then, it’s been successful, partially because of its morbid theme rather than in spite of it.
“I think people have a morbid curiosity, normally,” Thompson said. “But this allows them to, both a museum and a themed restaurant like this, kind of allows them to get as close as they can to the danger or to experiencing what that person might have experienced without having to actually go through everything they went through.”
What are some menu items?
It also features several original themed creations, such as drinks called Helter Seltzer, Jack’s Ripper, and Pogo’s Punch. There are also Charlie’s Chips, a nacho dish using ingredients that were popular in the area where the Manson family resided.
According to Thompson, there will also be some special, Monroe-exclusive menu items at the new location. However, he said he couldn’t reveal them just yet.
