Tickets on sale for JP Makes and Bakes, the last Top 10 Takeover dining series stop

After six months of sold-out dinners, this year’s Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Top 10 Takeover dining series is coming to a close.

Our last Top 10 Takeover in the dozen restaurant stops features JP Makes and Bakes on Sept. 30. This dining experience from JP Makes and Bakes, which landed at No. 8 on the 2025 list of Top 10 New Restaurants and Dining Experiences, will be a virtual/takeout only event with specific pickup times at the bakery.

JP Makes and Bakes is a small shop on Woodward Avenue in the New Center area where pastry chef Jonathan Peregrino offers up breads, brownies, cakes and cookies, many made with ube, a purple yam.

“Majestic purple confections became Peregrino’s signature as he colored everything from cookies to brownies to macarons with the purple yam,” wrote Detroit Free Press dining critic Lyndsay C. Green in naming the bakery as a best new dining experience. “The starchy root lends its vibrant color to each of Peregrino’s pastries, as well as its creamy texture and mildly sweet flavor. Cookies are softer and chewier, and hard chocolates have a velvety melt.”

The virtual/takeout Top 10 Takeover event pickup times on Sept. 30 are 4:30 p.m.-5:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.-7 p.m. Tickets for this event are $43 per person, which includes tax, gratuity, and $3 donation to Forgotten Harvest.

Tickets for the series go on sale Thursday, when Free Press subscribers have first access to tickets for each event. Subscribers should check their email at noon on Thursday, Sept. 11, for a link to JP Makes and Bakes ticket sales.

Following subscriber sales, tickets for the general public go on sale at noon Friday, Sept. 12, at freep.com/top10.

Each Top 10 Takeover dining experience offers diners a specially curated menu and direct access to Free Press writers and restaurant leadership. Each dining event takes place as a private event and, at times, is held when the restaurant is closed.

As in years past, the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers are once again offering a contest for a chance for one diner to win two complimentary tickets to each dinner of the series. You can enter the contest at chevydetroit.com/top10.
