St. Mary's Daniel Jacobson leads nine area players on All-Ski Valley baseball teams

GAYLORD ― The competition in the Ski Valley just keeps getting better. This past high school baseball season was a great example of that.

The addition of East Jordan has given the SVC one of the more impressive groups of Division 4 baseball teams, with EJ and Gaylord St. Mary representing the Northern Lower Peninsula well into the postseason in 2025. That made for a competitive final vote for the All-Ski Valley teams, with nine Gaylord-area players earning first team, second team and honorable mention honors.

St. Mary senior Daniel Jacobson led area honorees as the lone first teamer, hitting for a .451 batting average while totaling 44 runs scored along with 11 RBI. GSM’s everyday shortstop, he helped the Snowbirds upset East Jordan in the D4 regional championship and reach the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2021.

Three GSM players (Logan Greenier, Hogan McKinley and Charlie Cameron) along with two Johannesburg-Lewiston players (Rylan Rosso, Tanner Basinski) earned second-team honors as well.

Greenier was GSM’s starting catcher, hitting for a .421 average, 38 RBIs and two home runs. He also logged 143 innings behind the plate, throwing out 11 runners attempting to steal. Cameron also hit over .400, finishing with a .404 average with a team-high 38 hits, 33 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 2 home runs. McKinley was one of GSM’s best fielding outfielders while hitting .280 with 25 runs scored and 14 RBIs.

Rosso and Basinski were JoBurg’s top arms on the mound while both spending time on the left side of the infield. Rosso was the team leader in multiple offensive categories, finishing with 38 hits (14 extra-base hits), 29 RBI and 27 runs scored from the plate and a 1.96 earned run average with 60 total strikeouts on the mound.

Three more area players were honorable mentions, including St. Mary’s Lucas Greenier as well as JoBurg’s Collin Lake and Kyler Nowak.
