Sherrone Moore says Savion Hiter will be an 'immediate impact' player

Michigan football fans had to wait 24 hours before the prized commitment of the 2026 class put ink to paper, but on Thursday morning, five-star running back Savion Hiter was officially a Wolverine.

At No. 8 overall across recruiting services (Rivals and 247Sports), Hiter is the highest-rated running back to sign with the maize and blue in the modern recruiting era. And given the onus placed on the position and the development there, as well, the sky is the limit for the tailback from Mineral, Virginia.

So how quickly will Hiter acclimate to the system? Head coach Sherrone Moore told Jon Jansen on his signing day wrap-up on the In the Trenches Podcast that while he wants Hiter to come along at his own pace, given his ability, he’ll likely be able to see the field early and often.

“I don’t want to put too much on him. To start, I want him to be him,” Moore said. “But he’s electric. His highlight film, you watch it, he had a six-game highlight film, and he had 55 carries for 1,110 yards with like 15 touchdowns. He averaged 20 yards a carry, and it’s like a video game, right?

“So, he’s an elite specimen — physicality, a great human being, so we’ll see. We’ll see exactly what he does when he gets here. But I imagine he’s gonna be an immediate impact for us.”

At the moment, the Wolverines are waiting to learn whether or not junior running back Justice Haynes will return for another season. Jordan Marshall is due back for his redshirt sophomore campaign next year, so the future is bright in Ann Arbor at the tailback position now that Hiter is in the fold.

The Wolverines also brought in Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star RB Jonathan Brown, who is a good change of pace from Hiter, but is self-admittedly a bit of a project.
