National chain Total Wine & More plans new Lansing location

LANSING — Total Wine & More, a North Bethesda, Maryland chain of alcohol stores, plans to open a new store in Lansing.

The chain, which operates 293 stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia, will open its first area store “later this year,” company spokesperson Abby Decter said in an email.

She did not indicate where the store will be located or what the timeline is for its opening.

The company’s website doesn’t list a Lansing location. It lists five Michigan stores in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Rochester Hills, Novi and Sterling Heights.

“Whether local shoppers are looking for their go-to favorite brands or want to try something new, we’ll be open as their one-stop-shop for all adult beverage needs,” Decter said.

Total Wine & More was founded in 1991 with a single store in Delaware, according to the company’s website. The chain is the “nation’s largest independent beverage retailer offering an unmatched selection at the lowest prices,” it said.

The stores carry “8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers, from everyday favorites to collectible bottles, supported by close relationships with producers, distillers and brewers around the world.”

It’s unclear how many people the store will employ.
