Morenci girls basketball continues to roll, Blissfield and Adrian win

MORENCI – The Morenci Bulldogs continued to roll through the competition Wednesday night, rolling past Britton Deerfield 45-15.

Morenci took control from the start, using big first quarters from Colbie Ekins and Evelyn Joughin to build a 16-2 lead after one quarter.

The Bulldogs continued to eat in the second quarter, outscoring Britton Deerfield 9-5 to extend their lead to 25-7 at the half.

Morenci continued to ramp up the defense heading into the third quarter, outscoring the Patriots 9-2, extending their lead to 34-9. Morenci put the game away with an 11-6 fourth quarter to find the final score of 45-15.

Top Performers

Colbie Ekins, Morenci – Ekins led all scorers with 12 points in the big win

Kurina Dotson, Britton Deerfield – Dotson was the leading scorer for Britton Deerfield with six points.

Evelyn Joughin, Morenci – Joughin was the only other Bulldog in double figures as seven different Morenci players found the scorebook. Joughin had 11 points in the win.

Tessa Zuvers, Aly Curtis, and Addyson Valentine all had five points in the win for the Bulldogs.

The trio of Ava Delmotte, Elayna Thornton, and Lexi Purdy all scored three points in the tough loss for Britton Deerfield.

With the win Morenci improves to 13-1 overall on the season while Britton Deerfield falls to 3-10 overall.

Blissfield girls take down Lenawee Christian

BLISSFIELD – The Blissfield Royals secured another key win Tuesday night, defeating Lenawee Christian by the score of 46-37.

Lenawee Christian held a slim 13-12 lead after one quarter, only to see Blissfield explode for a 13-4 second quarter to build a 25-17 lead at the half.

Blissfield continued to pull away in the second half by scores of 11-9 and 10-9 to find the final score of 46-37.

Top Performers

Leigh Wyman, Blissfield – Wyman was one of two Royals to hit double figures, scoring 13 points in the win. Wyman also added six assists and three steals in the winning effort.

Brynn Davis, Lenawee Christian – Davis had a game high 21 points, the only Cougar to score in double figures.

Kaleea Braun, Blissfield – Brown finished the day with 10 points, one of two Royals to hit double digits.

De’Mya Gibbons, Blissfield – Gibbons finished the night with eight points to help the Royals to victory while also adding 10 rebounds.

Annie Scharer, Blissfield – Scharer had seven points in the winning effort for Blissfield while adding six assists and three steals.

With the win Blissfield improves to 12-2 overall on the season. The Royals will return to action Friday when they host Ida in a league game.

Lenawee Christian falls to 11-3 on the season with the tough loss and will return to action Friday when they travel to Britton Deerfield.

Adrian 41, Jackson 29

The Adrian Maple girls basketball team had little trouble with Jackson Tuesday night, winning 41-29.

Jackson did lead things early on, racing out to a quick 16-6 lead after one quarter. Adrian buckled down on defense however and held Jackson to just four points in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 10-4 to close the score to 20-16.

The second half belonged to Adrian who outscored Jackson 10-2 in the third quarter and 15-7 in the fourth to find the final score of 41-29.

Top Performers

Ella Salenbien, Adrian – Salenbien led the way for Adrian with a double-double, recording 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Jeniyah Graham, Jackson – Graham finished the night with 12 points, the only Viking in double figures.

Amor Sanchez, Adrian – Sanchez finished yet again with double figures in scoring, adding 12 points to the Maples effort. Sanchez also chipped in seven rebounds and three steals in the win.

Adrian is now 12-2 overall on the season and will return to action on Friday when they face Tecumseh.

Jackson falls to 7-8 on the year and will return to action Friday when they travel to Pinckney.
