DUNDEE – Points have been at a premium in two girls basketball meetings between old rivals Dundee and Ida this season.
The first meeting at Ida on Jan. 30 was a 39-36 overtime slugfest that Dundee won.
The rematch followed a similar script with Dundee winning 37-31 on their home floor on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
“This one took everyone on the team,” Dundee coach Jay Briggs said. “Multiple players stepped up at different moments.”
The victory got Briggs looking back through the record books. He went back 10 years and could not find a time that Dundee had swept the regular-season series with Ida.
“It’s been a long time,” he said.
With points so difficult to find in this matchup. Dundee’s 9-0 run to start the game was monumental.
Lacey Evans got the Vikings rolling with 8 of her 10 points in the first quarter.
Freshman Aisley Cousino led the Vikings with 12 points and McKenzie Heath added 8.
Dundee improved to 14-7, reaching 14 wins for the first time since 2011-12. A victory over Britton Deerfield Thursday would give the Vikings their most wins since 1990.
Ida coach Tim Leonard was proud of the way his team fought back.
“Dundee’s lead was cut to two at the start of the fourth quarter, but Ida was not able to score more than one basket in the fourth quarter,” Leonard said.
Adisyn Swiderski led 8-12 Blue Streaks with 11 points.
