CARLETON – Flat Rock boys basketball coach Rick Smith was ill.
So ill that he had to miss a rivalry game at Airport on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

He probably was feeling better when he heard that his team pulled out a 56-52 Huron League victory.
“The Rams dug deep with an effort that would make coach proud,” said Flat Rock assistant Steve Kamin.
Flat Rock turned the ball over just eight times.
Evan Szalay and Jordan Godfrey paced the 7-14 Rams with 13 points apiece and Joel Scully came off the bench to add 11.
“We seemed to come out flat in the first half and had to play catch up the rest of the game,” Airport coach Ryan Marino said. “We were able to tie the game late but Flat Rock made plays when they needed to.”
Aidyn Stahr led all scorers with 20 points and Jack Baker tossed in 16 for 10-11 Airport.
The teams split a pair of regular-season clashes. The rubber match will come Monday when the teams meet at Jefferson in the first round of the state tournament.
