Michigan, Michigan State women earn All-Big Ten basketball honors

The Michigan and Michigan State women’s basketball teams are well-represented on the All-Big Ten teams, with two Wolverines earning first-team honors and Michigan State landing two on the second team as both programs prepare for the Big Ten Tournament.

Michigan’s Olivia Olson and Syla Swords earned first-team honors for the No. 8 Wolverines (24-5, 15-3 Big Ten). Brooke Quarles Daniels made the All-Defensive team, and Mila Holloway earned honorable mention.

Michigan State forward Grace Van Slooten and guard Kennedy Blair made second-team All-Big Ten. Guard Rashunda Jones made the All-Defensive team as voted by media. The Big Ten announced the teams Tuesday.

Michigan State women’s basketball is the No. 7 seed in the upcoming 2026 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, which will be held Wednesday-Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Spartans (22-7, 11-7) are ranked No. 18 nationally and earned the No. 7 seed. They will play in the second round Thursday against the winner of the game between No. 10-seeded Illinois and No. 15-seeded Wisconsin.

VanSlooten leads the Spartans averaging 15.1 points per game and is one of two MSU players to have started all 29 games. Blair is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points and also has started every game. She’s also second in the Big Ten in steals averaging 2.41 per game and fourth in assists (5.41).

Michigan is the No. 3 seed. UCLA, ranked No. 2 nationally, is the No. 1 seed. The Wolverines will first play Friday night in the quarterfinals. Olson is fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, averaging 19.6 points per game for the Wolverines. Swords averages 14.6 points per game and leads the team in 3-pointers with 68. The Wolverines won four of their last five in the regular season, including the last two.
