Lions release pair of veterans from I.R.

In a pair of minor Tuesday transactions, the Detroit Lions quietly let go of a couple of veterans off the team’s injured reserve.

Per the NFL’s transaction wire, the Lions terminated the contracts of OT Justin Herron and TE Kenny Yeboah. Both Herron and Yeboah suffered injuries during the preseason that forced the Lions to place them on injured reserve.

Yeboah was expected to compete as the team’s primary blocking tight end after signing as a free agent, but the former Jets TE injured his knee in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. Yeboah did reach an injury settlement with the Lions.

Herron was a mid-summer addition and quickly worked into the competition as a reserve offensive tackle. He injured his arm in pre-game warmups ahead of the preseason matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, leaving the field with his arm in an air cast. Herron did not get an injury settlement.

The players are now free to sign with any other NFL team and are not subject to waiver claims.
