Here's where to find warming shelters near Hillsdale as cold arrives

A wave of extremely frigid temperatures are expected to hit Michigan this weekend, and several local organizations are opening their doors as warming centers.

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory beginning at 4 a.m. Friday and continuing until 10 a.m. Saturday. Windchill temperatures are expected to reach as low as 25 degrees below zero.

NWS advises using caution while outdoors; wearing appropriate clothing; keeping pets indoors as much as possible; making frequent checks on older family, friends and relatives; ensuring portable heaters are being used correctly and not using generators or grills inside.

Share the Warmth offers overnight shelter during the coldest months of the year. 

Hillsdale Community Library 

11 E. Bacon St. in Hillsdale 

The Hillsdale Community Library is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. The library is closed Sundays.
