Here’s when and where KCC will hold its Memorial Day ceremony

Kellogg Community College will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, to honor U.S. veterans. According to a community announcement, the event will take place from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the Circle Drive flagpole area on KCC’s campus, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the campus Student Center.

The event will feature several participants. Col. Frank J. Walker will serve as the master of ceremonies and will give opening remarks. Cadets from the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy will present the Colors. Student vocalist India Carney-Wright will sing the national anthem, followed by KCC President Paul Watson leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Brig. Gen. C. Robert Sechrist will provide remarks during the ceremony. Walker and Watson will lay a wreath in honor of the veterans. KCC Jazz Band Director Eric Campbell will play Taps. Walker will conclude the ceremony with closing remarks.

Memorial Day is observed on Monday, May 26, this year, and all KCC campuses will be closed to honor the day. This includes the North Avenue and Regional Manufacturing Technology Center campuses in Battle Creek, as well as regional centers in Albion, Coldwater and Hastings. Regular summer schedules will resume on Tuesday, May 27.
