MONROE, MI — Good Trouble Monroe and Monroe County Indivisible will be joining the nation-wide Good Trouble Lives On demonstrations Thursday, July 17.
According to the official website, the demonstrations are “a national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration.” The day is held on the fifth anniversary of the passing of Congressman John Lewis, who coined the phrase “good trouble” to describe non-violent protest.
“We just want basically to celebrate his commitment and how to do it, in a non-violet way,” said Good Trouble Monroe founder Katybeth Davis. “We just want to reinforce there are ways to fight back without being violent.”
The protest will be held at the Monroe County Courthouse from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“We are just going to have the opportunity to hold space, to exercise your voice,” said Davis. “And if you have something inspiring or a poem or even a prayer, anything that can uplift, console.”
