Fourth of July events planned across Hillsdale County

Communities across Hillsdale County are preparing for a full slate of Fourth of July celebrations, with events scheduled from July 3-5 featuring fireworks, parades, live entertainment and family activities.

Many local traditions will return this year, continuing a long-standing regional focus on Independence Day festivities that include parades and fireworks displays.

McCourtie Park

In Somerset Township, McCourtie Park will host its Independence Day celebration Friday, July 3, at 10426 S. Jackson Road in Cement City. Family activities are set to begin at 3 p.m., followed by live music from CoalTrain from 6-9 p.m. Organizers plan to cap the evening with a fireworks show at dark.

Event organizers are also fundraising $20,000 to help sustain the annual fireworks display, encouraging community members to contribute to maintain the tradition in future years.

City of Hillsdale

In the city of Hillsdale, a two-day event titled “Hillsdale 250: Stars, Stripes & Celebration” is scheduled for July 3-4 at the Hillsdale County Fairgrounds and downtown Hillsdale.

Festivities on Friday, July 3, will include a cruise-in car show from 5-8 p.m. at the fairgrounds, located at 115 S. Broad St. The day will feature food trucks, live entertainment, raffles and a beer tent for attendees 21 and older. The Hillsdale County Historical Society Museum will also be open, and a craft and vendor show is planned.

Events will continue Saturday, July 4, beginning with a time capsule ceremony at 10 a.m. at Hillsdale City Hall. The city’s annual parade is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by additional activities at the fairgrounds, including food vendors, entertainment and raffles. A fireworks display is planned for dusk.

The celebration is being held in memory of Sgt. First Class William H. Butler Jr. and is presented by several local organizations, including the Hillsdale American Legion, Hillsdale Business Association and Hillsdale Township Firefighters Association.

Lake Diane

The Lake Diane Community Association will host its own Fourth of July festivities, beginning Saturday, July 4, with a golf cart parade.
