Fog advisory in Monroe County. Some schools closed, delayed March 4

Dense fog in Monroe County is causing school closings and delays Wednesday, March 4.

Monroe County is under a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m. March 4, according to the National Weather Service. Visibility is a quarter mile or less. Monroe County Emergency Management sent out phone and email alerts about the advisory around 2:30 a.m.

Monroe Public Schools and St. Mary Catholic Central High School are closed March 4. MPS was scheduled to have a half-day of classes on March 4.

The Monroe County Alert Nonfiction System (MCANS) offers alerts from local public safety agencies, including fire and police departments. Alerts can be sent to cell phones, landline phones and email addresses.

To sign up, visit the MCANS page and click on the alert image at the bottom of the screen.

Visitors to MCANS’ page will be directed to a form, where they can choose from a list of alerts, including: snow emergencies, public health information, school emergency notifications, local and county road closures and drinking water alerts.
