Dundee advances all 14 of its entries into individual regionals

The old Broadway song says 76 trombones led the big parade.

For Monroe County Region wrestling, 76 grapplers led a parade to the second round of the state tournament as they pushed their District competition on Saturday. Feb. 14.

Dundee, which is ranked No. 1 in the state for Division 3 and has dual-meet victories over the top teams in the other three division, was the drum major.

The Vikings advanced all 14 of its entries out of the District it hosted, including 12 who won their weight class.

New Boston Huron and Gibraltar Carlson excelled in Division 2 with Huron producing 11 Regional qualifiers and Carlson 10.

All 12 Monroe County Region teams had at least one wrestler advance.

DIVISION 1

WESTLAND –Tristan King (132), Nolan King (138), George Yockey (157), Zach Miracle (175) and Maxim Benore (126) all won their weight classes for Bedford.

Also advancing for the Mules were runner-up Cody Duvendack (120) and third-place finishers Caden Merritt (150) and Grayson Vaillant (106).

Both of Monroe’s Regional qualifiers came at 113 pounds, where Ryder Shotwell was second and Dylan Lewis fourth.

DIVISION 2

ADRIAN – Huron put eight wrestlers in the finals with Nathan Matsos (150), Joshua Hubbard (165), Caleb Frazier (106) and Daniel Gemmel (126) capturing championships and Cayden Banko (138), Braydon Hall (144), Mason Slovik (175) and Finnegan Grube (190) placing second.

Jason Downs (132), Max Banas (113) and Trever Davis (120) were third for the Chiefs.

Matthew Beach (285) won his weight class for Carlson, and teammates Gunnar Adams (175) and Wally Sindone (126) took second.

The Marauders had Michael Skowronski (138), Jacob Morris (190), Jailan Harris (215) and Abram McCall (106) all place third and Brenden Taylor (150), Lamont Royster (157) and Orlando Ehause (113) finish fourth.

Airport had a trio of champions in Kyle Link (132), Kaleb Sims (175) and Holden Otter (215).

Emmett Kruise (150) took third and Antonio Ayala (138) fourth for the Jets.

A runner-up showing by Karson Petit (150) was the best finish for Jefferson, and Logan Godlewski (285) and Cody O’Hern (106) were fourth.

DIVISION 3

DUNDEE – Dundee’s parade of champions featured Mason Katschor (132), Braden Broderick (144), Stone Redmon (150), Blake Cosby (157), Donny Beaufait (165), Avery Lane (175), Owen Motylinski (190), Rocco Redmon (215), Austin Miller (285), Dom Sindone (106), Mason Haines (120) and Bryan Sterling (126).

The other two Regional qualifiers for the Vikings came at 113 pounds: Brayden LaPlante (113) was second and Ryan Williams (113) third.

Ida’s Braxton Shaffer earned the championship at 113, and teammate Kaden Gerth (165) was a runner-up.

Justin Crozier (190), Sam King (285) and Evan Tengler (126) all took third for the Blue Streaks, and Evan Pugh (175) finished fourth.

Milan pushed six into Regionals as Jackson Hoover (157) took second, Patrick McShane (132), Samir Jomaa (175), Maximus Anthony (215), and Jaxen Straub (106) third and Stephen Learmonth (126) fourth.

Caden Hounshell (138) and Colin Booms (165) were third for Flat Rock and Javonte Markesino (144) and Andrew Marama (120) fourth.

Defending state champion Danny VanEeckhoutte of Erie Mason was second at 120.

DIVISION 4

CLINTON – Second-place finishes by Phineas Totten (126), Henry Wickenheiser (144) and Landon Barron (150) highlighted the day by St. Mary Catholic Central.

Also extending their seasons with third-place finishes for the Falcons were Hudson McLaughlin (113), Christian Craanen (126) and Tyler Bashaw (157).
