Detroit Tigers rain delay for ALDS Game 3 vs Seattle Mariners finally comes to an end

The Detroit Tigers were in a rain delay.

The Tigers and Seattle Mariners entered a rain delay Tuesday, Oct. 7, before Game 3 of the ALDS at Comerica Park — the Tigers’ first home game of the 2025 MLB playoffs. The game eventually started at 7:01 p.m., following a two-hour, 53-minute delay.

First pitch was initially scheduled for 4:08 p.m.

The Tigers and Mariners in Game 3 will be televised on FS2 and MLB Network. The game was initially set for FS1, but combination of the rain delay and Yankees-Blue Jays at 8:08 p.m. in the other ALDS matchup pushed Tigers-Mariners to FS2 and MLB Network. (Fans can also stream Game 3 on the Fox One app.)

“We’re going to play,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said, approximately two hours before Tuesday’s rain delay. “We don’t know exactly when we’re going to start.”

The Tigers and Mariners are tied, 1-1, in the best-of-five ALDS, with the winner advancing to the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays or New York Yankees.

Before Tuesday’s game, the Tigers played three games at Progressive Field in Cleveland and two games at T-Mobile Park in Seattle during their postseason journey.

The Tigers and Mariners are slated to play Game 4 of the ALDS at Comerica Park at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday, but first pitch for Wednesday’s game will shift to 7:08 p.m. if the Yankees are eliminated Tuesday by the Blue Jays.

The Tigers haven’t played a home game since Sept. 21 in the regular season.

They also haven’t won a home game since Sept. 6.

For the Tigers, right-hander Jack Flaherty started Tuesday’s game. The 29-year-old posted a 4.64 ERA with 59 walks and 188 strikeouts across 161 innings in 31 starts during the regular season.

Flaherty — who won the 2024 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers — pitched in Game 3 of the AL wild-card series against the Cleveland Guardians, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts across 4⅔ innings.

He has started 10 of 11 games throughout his postseason career, registering a 5.05 ERA in 51⅔ innings.

Right-hander Logan Gilbert started for the Mariners.

Gilbert has pitched in one other game in his postseason career, facing the Houston Astros in the 2022 ALDS. In that start, the 28-year-old allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5⅓ innings.

He has posted a sub-3.75 ERA in each of the past four seasons, including a 3.44 ERA with 31 walks and 173 strikeouts across 131 innings in 25 starts in 2025.
