Spanish driver Álex Palou, who has won the last three IndyCar championships for Chip Ganassi Racing, maintains a commanding lead in this year’s standings having won three of the seven races held so far this season. He is looking to win his fourth in Detroit, a race he last won in 2023 when the Grand Prix returned to the streets of downtown Detroit.

Last year’s winner was Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood, who finished a chippy race weekend that included an incident with Will Power during the Friday practice laps and a big crash on lap 84 of the main event that took out drivers Louis Foster and Felix Rosenqvist. Kirkwood enters Detroit’s race weekend third in the overall standings behind Palou and Team Penske’s David Malukas.

Rosenqvist comes into this race having won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24, in what was the closest finish in the history of the historic race. He finished 0.0233 ahead of Malukas, who has zero wins but four top-5 finishes this season.

Chip Ganassi’s Scott Dixon has won the Detroit Grand Prix a record five times, with Power having three Grand Prix wins to his name.
