City announces upcoming road closures for Detroit Grand Prix 2026

The City of Detroit released information on upcoming road closures in advance of the upcoming 2026 Detroit Grand Prix.

The annual auto racing event held downtown will take place between Friday, May 29, and Sunday, May 31. However, closures impacting residents and visitors will begin before and extend after the three-day event.

The City of Detroit listed the following:

Road closures now through June 4

Road closures May 24 through June 5

Road closures May 26 through 5 a.m. June 2

Road closures May 26 to 5 a.m. June 3

Road closures May 26 to 5 a.m. June 4

Despite closures, the city said residents and visitors will continue having access to downtown through city transportation options including SMART and DDOT buses, the QLINE, Transit Windsor, and the Detroit People Mover (both the QLINE and the Detroit People Mover are free for all riders).

DDOT and SMART buses will continue running their normal schedules, modifying routes to avoid road closures. The Detroit People Mover, which traverses a three-mile loop downtown, will have have extended hours. For the first two days of the Detroit Grand Prix, May 29 and 30, it will run from 5 a.m. to midnight. On May 31, it will run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The city said sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians.

The Detroit Windsor Tunnel will remain open and accessible from I-375 to westbound Jefferson Ave, but not via M-10. Those planning their route should visit https://takethetunnel.com/ for more information. And those planning travel to the Renaissance Center or pre-booked parking options near the Renaissance Center should arrive via I-375.
