A Walk in the Park: Lansing's Forest View Park features open fields, River Trail access

A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.com.

Forest View Park is a green space in Lansing offering residents and visitors a tranquil escape tucked away in the established Forest View neighborhood.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a family outing or a quiet walk, this park offers something for everyone. Located at 2116 Forest Road, south of Mt. Hope Avenue and east of Aurelius Road, the neighborhood park is a destination for families, nature enthusiasts, and community members seeking outdoor recreation and a connection to the natural beauty.

Forest View Park features large open grass fields with hills, mature trees and woods along the park’s perimeter. The tree canopy provides shade and a habitat for local wildlife, including birds deer and other small mammals. While the park has no dedicated trails, patrons can take a stroll around the park’s 8 acres or partake in family activities including picnics and relaxation. The park features a playground with modern equipment at the park’s entrance, a covered pavilion with tables and grills, and basketball courts.

The park can be reached from the Lansing River Trail, since the Bear Lake Pathway extension was opened in the Forest View neighborhood in 2021. If driving, there’s a parking lot at the park’s entrance. There are no bathrooms on site and leashed dogs are welcome.
