Michigan State Police Calumet Post troopers were dispatched to the crash on U.S. 41 in Houghton County’s Osceola Township at about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 5 where an SUV, driven by a 45-year-old woman, struck the motorcyclists head on.

The SUV driver, with two child passengers, was southbound on U.S. 41 near Golf Course Road, south of Calumet and Laurium.

When a pickup truck in front of the woman stopped to turn onto Golf Course Road, she drove into the northbound lane of U.S. 41 to avoid hitting the truck in front of her, which she had not realized had stopped.

The SUV struck both motorcyclists, who died in the crash, police said.

The SUV driver and her children were released after medical evaluation, police said. Police did not release the identities of the motorcyclists or the driver. Police did not say whether the driver would face any charges.
