2 Laingsburg residents, 82 and 79, killed in Shiawassee County crash

WOODHULL TWP. — Police said a crash that killed two elderly people from Laingsburg over the weekend in southwest Shiawassee County happened after a suspected drunken driver ran a stop sign.

The crash happened about 5:53 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at the intersection of Britton and Shaftsburg roads, the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Feb. 17 news release.

A northbound SUV driven by a 38-year-old Laingsburg man collided with a westbound SUV driven by an 82-year-old Laingsburg man, officials said. The older driver was killed, along with his passenger, a 79-year-old Laingsburg woman, and a pet dog that also was riding in the vehicle.

Police said the man driving north on Shaftsburg Road failed to stop at a stop sign. They also said they suspect alcohol use was factor in the crash, and the driver was being held on suspicion of driving while intoxicated causing death.
