HASLETT — An 11-year-old boy is getting recognized by Ingham County first responders for helping them rescue his family when they became stranded in the middle of Lake Lansing.
“We would like (to) thank the young man who was able to call for help and calmly and clearly explain to dispatchers where he was and what he needed,” the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 15 release.
The boy called 911 at about 1:40 p.m. July 5 to say his mom, another adult, and two children were stranded on a large inflatable raft in the middle of the lake.
“The boy was concerned because they could not get to shore and the raft was taking on water,” deputies said. “Only one of four had a life preserver.”
A Marine Patrol deputy working at the lake was able to “quickly rescue” the group, they said.
