Medics pronounced an 85-year-old Oakland County woman dead at the scene, authorities said. A 26-year-old Roseville man and his female passenger were taken to a hospital, according to investigators.

The man suffered minor injuries and is in custody, while his passenger is listed in serious condition, officials said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was driving a vehicle speeding south on Groesbeck when it struck another vehicle. The Oakland County woman was driving the vehicle hit, police said.

Investigators said they believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Roseville Police Department at (586) 447-4483.

Michigan State Police said Tuesday that 12 people died on state roadways over the previous week, raising the total number of traffic deaths to 177 so far this year.

In addition, another 75 people were seriously injured, bringing the statewide total of injuries from crashes to 929, the agency reported.

There are 29 fewer fatalities and nine more serious injuries compared to the same period last year, state police data said.
